Residents of Oxford County are feeling the squeeze. Rising costs for groceries, fuel, utilities, and everyday expenses are stretching household budgets. Property taxes are one of the few costs that local councils can control directly, and this year, Stand4Oxford is asking councillors to hold the line with a 0% increase.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This campaign is an expansion of the work we started with KICLEI Oxford. The message is clear: Oxford County budgets should focus on local priorities, not global programs like PCP or ICLEI.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Why This Matters<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Holding taxes steady this year is a practical, responsible step that helps families, farmers, and local businesses breathe easier while still maintaining essential services. Oxford County property taxes have risen by 56.36% cumulatively from 2015 to 2025, significantly outpacing the cumulative inflation rate in Canada of 27.84% over the same period. We call on councils to prioritize local needs, find efficiencies in current budgets, and ensure transparency and accountability in spending.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

  1. Reach out to your councillors<\/strong>
    <\/strong>Call or write your mayor and councillors to let them know you support a 0% tax increase. Every voice counts. Find their contact information here: https:\/\/www.oxfordcounty.ca\/your-government\/municipal-directory\/<\/a>

  2. Sign the petition
    <\/strong>Show your support by printing and signing the petition. You can download a PDF of the petition below to fill out. Be sure to involve your neighbours and friends \u2014 the more signatures we collect, the stronger the message to council. Once completed, mail the pages to:

  3. Grab a lawn sign
    <\/strong>Show your support right at home. Lawn signs are available in Burgessville, Ingersoll, Norwich, Tavistock, Thamesford, Tillsonburg, and Woodstock. Send us a message at     Contact<\/a>\u00a0with your name, address, and contact info, and a volunteer will reach out to arrange pick-up or delivery. Donations of $5\u201310 to cover costs are appreciated but not required.
