Stand4Oxford began with residents asking questions about decisions affecting Oxford County.
As we became more involved in local issues, we found ourselves participating in a variety of initiatives—some led directly by Stand4Oxford, others undertaken in partnership with community groups and residents who shared similar concerns.
While each initiative focuses on a different issue, they are connected by a common theme: the belief that citizens should have access to information, opportunities to participate, and a meaningful voice in decisions affecting their communities.
Bring Decisions Back Home
This initiative grew out of our experience navigating local government processes and our concern that decision-making is becoming increasingly removed from the communities affected by it.
It examines the growing concentration of authority at higher levels of government and asks a simple question: who should make decisions that affect our communities?
0% Tax Increase
As municipal spending continued to grow, many residents expressed concern about the cumulative impact of property tax increases.
This initiative encouraged local governments to examine spending priorities and consider opportunities to reduce the burden placed on taxpayers while maintaining essential services.
Wind Turbine Community Support
When local residents organized around concerns related to proposed wind turbine developments, Stand4Oxford provided support by helping share information, encourage public participation, and raise awareness of community concerns.
Although this was not a Stand4Oxford-led initiative, we were pleased to assist residents seeking greater engagement in the decision-making process.
KICLEI Collaboration
Stand4Oxford partnered with KICLEI Canada on initiatives related to local environmental stewardship and community engagement.
The collaboration reflects our belief that complex issues are best addressed through informed discussion, public participation, and community involvement.
Delegations to Council
Stand4Oxford participates in municipal decision-making processes by making formal delegations to council when issues of community concern arise.
These presentations provide an opportunity to bring forward resident perspectives and encourage transparent, informed discussion on matters affecting Oxford County.
