One of the most encouraging moments in any grassroots movement is realizing that a conversation has reached beyond your own community.
That’s how we felt when we discovered that StratfordToday had published Stand4Oxford’s open letter to MPP Rob Flack regarding Bill 100. It was a reminder that questions about local governance, democratic accountability, and provincial oversight aren’t just Oxford County issues — they matter to communities across Ontario.
Local newspapers do more than report the news. They help democracy happen by creating space for citizens to raise concerns, share perspectives, and engage in respectful public discussion. When important questions are brought into the open, communities are better equipped to understand the decisions that affect their future.
When legislation has the potential to change the relationship between communities and their elected representatives, public scrutiny is essential. Residents deserve the opportunity to ask questions, seek answers, and participate in conversations that shape the places they call home.
