We’re pleased to share an important update on the proposed wind turbine projects in Oxford County.
After months of strong public engagement, countless conversations at the doorstep, and many thoughtful presentations at council meetings, the Township of South-West Oxford (SWOX) has officially upheld its decision to declare itself an “unwilling host” for industrial wind turbine projects.
This means that, at this time, SWOX will not support the development of the two proposed wind farms within its boundaries. This outcome reflects the clear and consistent message that local residents, farmers, and business owners have shared: decisions about major energy projects must prioritize the well-being of our communities.
We are proud to have supported the grassroots group leading this effort by helping to:
- Share information about town halls, petitions, and council delegations
- Encourage residents to contact their mayor and councillors to voice their concerns
- Provide volunteers to go door to door gathering signatures and raising awareness
More than anything, this outcome shows what can happen when communities come together and speak up.
Thank you to everyone who signed petitions, attended meetings, contacted council members, or talked with their neighbours. Your voices made a difference.
What’s Next
While this decision is an important step, energy projects can return in new forms in the future. Staying informed and involved will help ensure our local councils continue to reflect the priorities of their communities.
We encourage residents to:
- Keep up to date on local council agendas and energy-related proposals
- Stay connected with local community groups and share information with neighbours
- Continue voicing concerns and ideas to local councillors and the mayor
Together, we can make sure future energy decisions are made with the community — not just about it.
