Oxford’s Rural OPP 2026–2029 Survey: Participate Wisely

The Oxford OPP’s 2026–2029 Detachment Action Plan Survey closes soon — November 30. It’s open to all Oxford County residents, but so far, Norwich Township is the only municipality actively highlighting it. Most others don’t mention the survey at all, though you can indicate your region when completing it.

Before you submit, keep a few things in mind:

  • Lack of context: The survey asks you to rank priorities without showing how the last three-year plan actually performed. We don’t know which strategies worked, which didn’t, or what they cost.
  • Rising costs: Policing is expensive. Survey responses can influence new programs or expanded responsibilities that increase local OPP bills.
  • Social issues vs. policing: Questions cover homelessness, mental health, and addiction — serious problems that are better addressed by social services, not police.
  • Survey design concerns: Some questions group unrelated issues or use vague terms, making it hard to give clear, thoughtful answers.

Bottom line: Your input matters — but make it informed. We need the full picture before setting priorities for the next three years of policing, and the “Other” option is a great way to clarify your perspective or highlight priorities not listed.
